How to commute in Manila using your Beep Card for tourists?

Updated: Apr 13, 2020

What is Beep Card? Beep card is a prepaid reloadable card that you can use to pay for transportation fare within Metro Manila specifically 3 elevated railways: LRT1, LRT2, and MRT. It can also be used in selected city buses such as BGC Bus, Citylink Coach Services and the majority of the Point-to-Point (P2P) buses. It is also accepted in NLEX and CAVITEX to pay for toll fees and in various retail establishments such as Family Mart and Wendy’s for over-the-counter payments. If you are traveling within Metro Manila and if you are a tourist from another country traveling from one place to another, a local salaryman working in the Metro then this is a great must-have to avoid long lines when buying your ticket at the station.

Where to buy? You can easily buy this at the nearest LRT or MRT train stations. Just ask the teller and from what I experienced, it's only P100 ($2) only including the reloadable card and a P80 load. I have seen some booths in BGC Taguig and kiosks all over Metro Manila, just look for their logo and you buy it from there.

The fare from one station to another would only cost you around Php 11 to P30 depending on the location you are getting off. Don't worry you will see your balance after you tap your card on the turnstile and before you got off at the station.

You can only use the card up to the expiration date showing on the back. You would also see the account number at the back of the card.

How to load?

They have loading partners like banks, supermarkets, remittance centers and so on. You can check the list of loading stations here. Mainly, you can load your card at the station.

Most of the tourist attractions in Manila can be done by riding the LRT or MRT lines. Check list of stations per line. Check the tourist attractions here.
